There is this young Mād man that usually roam around the street, and anytime he sees me, he points at my Pregnancy and says

“I’m the One responsible for this pregnancy, I’m the rightful father of your unborn child!”

My name is Gift Phoebe. After 5 years of being married to my husband with no child, finally, the hospital confirmed me pregnant after the test I did. I was already scared that I might have to adopt a child or dié childless because there was literally no hope for me.

I once had a nice in-law, mostly a mother-in-law, but after years of waiting and no child, they changed totally towards me. They were even suggesting to my husband Hezekiah that he should marry another wife, because it’s obvious it’s from your wife.

Several nights, I’m always awake, praying to God, that he should remember me; and now he did.

After I was already 8 Weeks pregnant, I told my husband that we should scroll one evening round the street, I was already pregnant, my tummy was already shooting out.

As we were walking, the street was a busy one, averagely dirty with refuse, and there are a lot of mentally unstabIe people in that street.

But as we were trekking, one young fair man on rags, dirts and dusty hairs approached me and he pointed at my tummy and shouted,

“I’m the one responsible for this pregnancy, I’m the real father of this unborn child!!!”

I have never been so disgraced, embarrassed, and insulted before in my life like this. What is he thinking? That I sIept with him or what? I haven’t even set my eyes on this man since my life. Is he trying to scatter my marriage or what?…

“Who’s this Iunatic? Do you know me? Have we met before? If you’re acting all your madness, please don’t bring it close to me!” I screamed, my voice shaking with anger.

My husband just told me to ignore him. He clearly sees that he’s not stable, so his words shouldn’t be taken seriously…

We left him at that spot… he was just shouting,

“Time will tell! I’m the one that owns that pregnancy! I’m the father, and no one else, and I must claim what belongs to me!”

We quickly went to the hospital after 3 days to run a NIPP test, a DNA test for pregnancy. The results finally came out! And guess what, my husband was the father of the child! I felt relieved,

because I know fully well that I haven’t slept with any other person. I can’t cheat, so why is that Iunatic dishing a very serious allegation?

“Honey, I told you not to worry yourself. He’s not in his right frame of mind,” my husband said, patting my hand as we sat in the hospital reception.

“I just have to clear the doubt, my sweet husband. People were looking at us in the street. I don’t want anyone thinking I am a loose woman,” I replied.

That night, I couldn’t sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the dirty, fair-skinned man with his wild hair. His eyes weren’t empty like other mad people I had seen. They were intense.

“Hezekiah,” I whispered, nudging my husband. “Are you awake?”

Hezekiah groaned and turned over. “Gift, it’s 2:00 AM. What is it again?”

“That man,” I said, sitting up. “How did he know I was struggling to conceive for five years? How did he know exactly where to find us?”

Hezekiah sat up too, rubbing his eyes. “Gift, listen to me. This neighborhood is small. People talk. Maybe he heard the neighbors gossiping. Maybe he’s just a crazy man who says the same thing to every pregnant woman he sees.”

“But he didn’t point at the woman selling roasted corn,” I argued. “She is also pregnant. He came straight to me. He looked me in the eye, Hezekiah. It felt… personal.”

“You are overthinking this because of the stress your mother-in-law gave you,” Hezekiah said gently. “The DNA test is out. The doctor signed it. I am the father. End of story. Now, please, sleep for the baby’s sake.”

As I close my eyes, the only question on my mind was:

Does he know me before?

Is he truly mad, or he knows what he’s saying?

If the results shows that my husband is the father, so why is he trying to claim my pregnancy?
